A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made from titanium that is surgically placed into the jaw to support a replacement crown or bridge. Several implants can strongly secure a denture in place and give you the confidence to eat what you want without worrying about them coming loose! It will come as no surprise that at Dental Masters we use one of the world’s best implant systems.
The procedure involves drilling a hole into your jawbone to accommodate the implant, which is then inserted into place and left to heal over a period of 3-6 months. During this time the titanium implant integrates with the surrounding bone tissue providing a solid support for your crown, bridge or denture.
Implants look and feel like your own teeth, they are very durable and will last for many years provided they are looked after by brushing, flossing and regular check-ups. The main aim during installation of any implant is to achieve immediate close contact with the surrounding bone. This creates an initial stability, which over time is steadily enhanced by further growth of bone into microscopic roughness on the implant surface.
In order to support replacement teeth, dental implants normally have some form of internal screw thread or post space that allows a variety of components to be fitted. We take care of the surgical & restorative phases in the same office.
